September 9, 2009

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Goucher kept Washington (Md.) off the scoreboard for 65 minutes, but the Shorewomen were able to manufacture a pair of goals out of the 25 shots they took tonight in a 2-0 triumph over the visiting Gophers.

Gabby Antalffy broke up the scoreless tie at 65:46 when she knocked in a corner kick from Stephanie Willingham. The Shorewomen (1-1) increased their lead to 2-0 at 78:48 when Tara Keefe bent a shot into the upper right-hand corner from 20 yards out.

The Gophers (1-2) were limited to six shots, but nearly avoided being shutout only to have a shot in the 89th minute by Sisley Pumilia (Spofford, N.H./Keene) bound off the crossbar.

Kellen Matthews (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) went the distance in goal for Goucher, making a total of 14 saves.
