Goucher Women's Soccer in the Community
March 2, 2013
On Saturday, March 2 members of the Goucher Soccer program went to St. Vincent’s Villa in Timonium, MD for an afternoon of community service. One of our soccer alumni, Sisley Pumilia (class of 2011), works at St. Vincent’s Villa which is a residential treatment center that provides comprehensive therapeutic services to children with severe behavioral and emotional difficulties. Sisley was able to arrange for our team to go and work and play with some of the kids in the program and take them through some soccer specific training and a scrimmage.
All in all it was an amazing day. We spent about 2.5 hours at the facility playing with the kids and getting them to run around and have fun. I hope that it was as beneficial for the kids at St. Vincent’s as it was for all of us!
February 4, 2012
On February 4th the Goucher Soccer team participated in a community service event called "Kids in the Kitchen" at the Port Discovery Children's Museum in Baltimore. This is the second year in a row that we have done the event which was created to promote fitness, nutrition and healthy lifestyles in kids ages 5-16. Throughout the day more than 200 Baltimore City elementary school kids came through the museum. Our team was there to teach them some basic soccer skills and get them running around and enjoying playing. It has turned into a great yearly event for us!
