Hogstrom Breaks School Record in 50 Free

Natoli Places Fourth in 200 Back, Fifth in 100 Back

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD — Goucher's Bethany Natoli (Alexandria, VA/O'Connell) reached the championship finals in two events and Britt Hogstrom (Killington, VT/Woodstock Union) broke the school record in the 50-yard freestyle at the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference Swimming Championships.

Natoli completed the 200-yard backstroke in 2:14.02, good for fourth place, and the 100 back in 1:02.88 for fifth place. She placed 11th overall in the 200 butterfly (2:25.61).

Sarah Keifer (Skillman, NJ/Montgomery) captured sixth place in the 1650 free, completing the grueling event in 19:11.52. She was clocked at 5:35.78 in the 500 free for 12th place.

It was during the consolation finals of the 50 free that Hogstrom set a new school record as she touched in :25.69, good for 10th place. Hogstrom also made the consolation finals in two other individual events, placing ninth in the 100 free (:56.45) and 15th in the 200 free (2:06.64).

Three other Goucher swimmers made it to the consolation finals in a pair of events: Candace Crasto (Tallahassee, FL/Urbana), 11th place in the 50 free (:25.73) and 12th in the 100 breast (1:13.43); Samantha Sutherland (North Reading, MA/Austin Prep), 12th place in the 100 butterfly (1:04.73) and 14th in the 100 back (1:07.33); and Mara Baron (Plymouth, MN/Breck School), 16th in both the 200 butterfly (2:31.60) and the 100 butterfly (1:06.43).

Goucher had a relay place as high as fourth: Natoli, Alex Deffaa (Glen Rock, NJ/Oakwood Friends School), Sutherland and Hogstrom completed the 200 medley relay in 1:55.64. Two other Goucher relays captured fifth place: Hogstrom, Crasto, Sandy Okun (Stevenson, MD/McDonogh School) and Sutherland in the 200 free relay (1:44.65), and Hogstrom, Crasto, Natoli and Sutherland in the 400 free relay (3:50.69).

Goucher beat out York for sixth place in the final team standings as the Gophers outscored the Spartans, 226-219.5.
