Gophers Wrap Up Regular Season, Bow to Pacers

Craver Takes First in 100 Free, 200 IM, Second in 100 Breast

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Nicole Craver (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove Area) turned in a pair of first-place performances and the Gophers took second place in both relays and produced the runner-up in seven individual events in today's home meet against Marywood, but that didn't give them enough points to knock off the Pacers.

Marywood, which is an affilate member of the Landmark Conference in the sport of swimming and diving, departed the von Borries Aquatic Center with a convincing 172-76 victory over head coach Thomas Till's squad.

Craver touched first in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley. She completed the 100 free in :59.17 and the 200 IM in 2:26.63. She was also runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.63).

Rachel Lyon (Fallston, Md./The John Carroll School), one of the two seniors on Goucher's 2012-13 roster, was runner-up in the 200 free (2:14.97) and and both she and classmate Abbey Wegman (Knoxville, Tenn./Berean Christian) helped the Gophers (1-11, 0-7 Landmark) gain points in the relay events: Wegman swam the final leg on Goucher's entry that placed second in the 200 medley relay and both seniors were among the four swimmers who combined to finish in second in the 200 free relay.

Swimming ahead of Wegman in the 200 medley relay were Kellyn Brower (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge), Craver and Sydney Patterson (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson) and that unit was clocked at 2:06.57. In the meet's final event, the entry of Wegman, Marykate Malone (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard), Patterson and Lyon posted a combined time of 1:55.96.

Brower was runner-up in both backstroke events with times of 1:10.25 in the 100 back and 2:30.28 in the 200 back. Additional second-place finishes for Goucher came from Malone in the 1000 free (12:20.91), Catherine Gepner (West Allenhurst, N.J./Ocean Twp.) in the 200 butterfly (2:47.19) and Patterson in the 100 fly (1:11.50).

This was Goucher's final competition prior to the Landmark Conference Championships which Marywood will host Feb. 8-10. The Pacers (5-9, 4-3 Landmark) will host Cazenovia on Jan. 24.
