TOWSON, Md. — For advancing further in the championship singles draw at the 2013 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships than any other player from the Landmark Conference, Goucher's Amanda Bercovici (Hackensack, N.J./Bergen Tech) was selected today as the conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week for September 16-22.
The junior transfer, Goucher's only representative in the tournament's top singles flight, opened with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 victory over Alison Henry from Randolph and followed that up with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 triumph over Abbey Hamstra from Carngie Mellon.
Needing one more win to reach the quarterfinals, Bercovici ran into Amanda Austi from Johns Hopkins in the round of 16 and was handed a 6-1, 6-1 setback.
Bercovici also played a role in two of the three points the Gophers earned in a season-opening 6-3 loss to York earlier in the week. She achieved a 6-0, 6-0 win over Dea Vlahos at first singles and partnered with Kirsten Cianci (Bolton, Conn./Bolton) in an 8-0 rout of Darian Naill and Mckenzie Krout at first doubles.
