Gophers Score in All Three Relays, Finish in Ninth Place
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — Goucher's Kamillah Smith (Northampton, Mass./Amherst Regional) set a new school record while placing fourth overall in the 60-meter dash today at the Frank Colden Invitational.
Smith was clocked at 8.11 seconds, breaking the former record of 8.23 seconds set last season by Destiny Phillips. Danisha Higgs from Albright was first across the finish line as she completed the event in 7.97 seconds.
The freshman also took eighth place in the 200-meter dash with her time of 27.95 seconds.
Jaclyn Kellon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) completed the 400-meter dash in 1:02.73, good for fifth place.
The Gophers put an entry in all three relay events and came away with points in each one. In the 4 x 200-meter relay, the foursome of Smith, Stephanie Correa (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) and Kellon picked up four points for a fifth-place finish (1:57.64); fifth place is also where Kellon, Granger, Correa and Jewell Porter (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) ended up in the 4 x 400-meter relay (4:43.69).
In the 4 x 800-meter relay, the entry of Hallie Yarmus (Groton, Mass./F.W. Parker Charter), Hadley Couraud (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing), Christine Cherry (Laurel, Md./Meade) and Zoe Malkin (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) came in sixth (11:28.44).
The Gophers finished with 21 points, which put them in ninth place among the 17 scoring teams at the meet.
