Third-Place Efforts: Aganovic in Triple Jump, Smith in 100
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Goucher had an athlete place in the top 5 in six different individual events during the two-day Battleground Relays, which concluded this afternoon.
The top finish came from Maafio Appiah-Padi (Edmonton, Alberta/Lewisburg Area) in the hammer throw. She took second place with her effort of 113' 5".
There were a pair of third-place performances: by Sara Aganovic (Pasadena, Md./McDonogh) in the triple jump and Kamillah Smith (Northampton, Mass./Amherst Regional) in the 100-meter dash. Aganovic's jump of 33' 3.75" ranks third best all-time in the history of Goucher's women's outdoor track and field program, while Smith was clocked at 13.06 seconds in the 100.
Appiah-Padi placed fifth in the shot put (33' 4.75"), as did Christine Cherry (Laurel, Md./Meade) in the 3,000-meter run and Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) in the 400-meter hurdles. Cherry completed her event in 12:13.01; Granger posted a time of 1:18.45 in the 400 hurdles. Stephanie Correa (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) followed Granger across the finish line in the 400 hurdles, placing sixth with her time of 1:20.46, and Jewell Porter (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) was seventh (1:20.81).
Aganovic placed seventh overall in the long jump (14' 7.25").
In the relays, Goucher had an entry place as high as second. That was in the 4 x 400-meter relay where Jaclyn Kellon (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel), Granger, Katherine Currier (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaGuardia) and Porter recorded a time of 4:27.91.
The foursome of Cherry, Porter, Haley Augustson (Athens, W.Va./PikeView) and Currier placed third in the distance medley relay as it finished in 13:59.47.
The Gophers took fourth place in the 4 x 100-meter, 4 x 200-meter and 4 x 800-meter relays. In the 4 x 100, Kellon, Granger, Correa and Smith were clocked at 53.68 seconds, in the 4 x 200, Kellon, Granger, Correa and Porter at 1:56.73, and in the 4 x 800, Currier, Shea Staab (Fallston, Md./Fallston), Augustson and Zoe Malkin (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) at 11:06.75.
