Aganovic Breaks Own School Mark in Triple Jump

GRANTHAM, Pa. — A record-breaking jump from Sara Aganovic (Pasadena, Md./McDonogh) highlighted Goucher's performance at the Messiah Invitational this afternoon.

Aganovic managed an effort of 10.42 meters (34'2 1/4") in the triple jump, breaking her own school record of 10.40 meters which was set at last year's Landmark Championships. Today's jump placed her sixth overall and earned her three points towards the team's final total of 49. Aganovic picked up an additional five points after finishing fourth in the long jump with a distance of 4.99 meters (16'4 1/2").

The Gophers tacked on points in six other individual events, including a pair of top eight results from Maafio Appiah-Padi (Edmonton, Alberta/Lewisburg Area). The junior placed third out of 18 competitors in the hammer throw, recording a top distance of 33.88 meters (111'2"). Appiah-Padi also finished sixth in the shot put with a top effort of 9.76 meters (32' 1/2").

Danielle Granger (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) had a pair of fourth place results to highlight the track events for Goucher. Granger ran a 17.47 in the 100 meter hurdles, and she set a new top personal time at 1:11.54 in the 400 meter hurdles. Camille Jorgensen (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) had the top individual finish with her third place performance in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (13:31.43).

Katelynn Zidanic (York, Pa./Central York) and June Chiango (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing Area) each scored for the Gophers in the 5,000 meters. Zidanic just broke 20 minutes at 19:58.47 to earn a fourth place result, while Chiango followed closely behind in sixth at 20:19.31. Kamillah Smith (Northampton, Mass./Amherst Regional), racing in her first outdoor meet of 2014, placed seventh out of 27 runners in the 200 meter dash (26.91).

Goucher also had a third place showing in the 4x800 meter relay, with the Gopher team of Chiango, Christine Cherry (Laurel, Md./Meade), Rebecca Kotula (Fallston, Md./John Carroll School) and Kathryn Walker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) completing the race in 11:34.49.

Goucher returns to action next Saturday at the Mason-Dixon Invitational in Gettysburg, Pa.
