Gophers Defeat Gators to Earn Split 

41 Kills, 32 Digs for Smith in Pair of Matches

BALTIMORE, Md. - Goucher's Megan Smith (Honolulu, HI/Long Beach Polytechnic) had 41 kills and 32 digs in the two matches, but the Gophers still needed to defeat Notre Dame (Md.), 3-1, to come away from the event with a split.

Before pinning a 28-30, 30-24, 30-18, 30-20 setback on the Gators, head coach Michael Bossom's squad fell to Emory & Henry, 3-0. Game scores in the first match were 30-27, 30-21, 30-24.

Against the Wasps (15-5), Smith supplied the Gophers with team-high totals of 20 kills and 14 digs. Claire Sauvage-Mar (New Dehli, India/American Embassy School) was credited with 13 digs and 16 assists.

By beating the Gators (3-14), the Gophers improved to 5-0 in four-game matches this season. Smith again led Goucher (14-11) in kills (21) and digs (18), plus she served three aces. Kasey Quinn (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) contributed 17 kills and 16 digs to the victory.

Sauvage-Mar and Catie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca) both had 26 assists.
