Goucher Programs Earn Academic Recognition

Award for Cumulative Team GPA of 3.1 or Higher

February 26, 2007

METAIRIE, LA — Both of Goucher's cross country programs are being recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the academic accomplishments of student-athletes in 2006, a spokeperson for the organization announced today.

The USTFCCCA's All-Academic Team Award goes to programs in which the entire active roster attains a 3.10 or higher grade point average. The combined GPA of the runners on Goucher's men's cross country team in the fall was 3.140, and for the women, it was 3.540.

During the 13 years John Caslin has been the head coach of Goucher's cross country programs, his squads have earned a total of 19 All-Academic Team Awards — 10 by the women and nine by the men.

Goucher is one of only two schools in the Capital Athletic Conference from which both the men's and women's cross country programs qualified for the All-Academic Team Awards in 2006.
