Gophers Place Fifth in Race Dominated by Red Devils
Shaw Crosses Finish Line in 21st Place, Seven Spots Ahead of
Young

TOWSON, Md. – Goucher finished in fifth place in the team scoring and had a runner place as high as 21st at today's Goucher Cross Country Classic.
In the only race the Gophers will run on their home course all season, Katie Shaw (Albuquerque, N.M./Bosque School) was the first Goucher runner to cross the finish line. She missed a top-20 finish by just one spot as she completed the 6,000-meter race in 26:50.11.
After Shaw, the next two Goucher runners to complete the race were Kate Young (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) in 28th place and Alex Collis (Glenside, Pa./Abington) in 40th place. Young was clocked at 27:15.42 and Collis at 28:51.74.
Dickinson's Darcy McDonald was the individual champion, setting a new course record with her winning time of 23:59.86.
With McDonald and four of her teammates claiming the first five
spots in the race, the Red Devils easily captured the team title
with a perfect score of 15 points. Coppin St. was runner-up with 69
points, followed by Morgan St. (80 points) in third, York (105) in
fourth, Goucher (129) in fifth and Lancaster Bible (143) in sixth.
