Couraud Finishes as Runner-Up in Goucher Classic
Host School Places Third Behind York, Coppin St. in Team Scoring

TOWSON, Md. — Goucher's Hadley Couraud (East
Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) was the runner-up today in
the 2009 Goucher Cross Country Classic, finishing less than 11
seconds behind Melody Parshall from York.
Parshall's winning time was 25:40.19, while Couraud completed the 6,000-meter race in 25:50.28. Latisha Duncan from Coppin St. was third with her time of 25:52.39, York's Corie Thompson was fourth (26:12.85) and Goucher's Katie Shaw (Albuquerque, N.M./Bosque School) was fifth (26:14.62).
The three remaining runners that figured in Goucher's team score of 60 points were Hannah Southworth (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) in 16th place with a time of 28:09.63, Kate Young (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) in 21st place (29:40.78) and Chiara Collette (Naples, Fla./Jakarta International School) in 26th (30:36.33).
In the team scoring, York posted the low score of 37 points to
win the title and second place went to Coppin St., which earned a
score of 59 points, one fewer than Goucher. Still, by finishing
third, head coach John Caslin's Gophers matched their best
performance in the Goucher Cross Country Classic — third
place in 2006 — since winning the event in 2005.
