Jen Smith Named All-Goucher Coach Of The Year

BALTIMORE, Md. – Goucher College Equestrian Director Jen Smith was selected as the All-Goucher Coach of the Year during its Virtual Banquet on Wednesday.

Smith, who is in her seventh year as the equestrian director at Goucher, helped the Gophers to its 11th-straight IHSA Zone IV, Region I title. Goucher earned 45 of the 49 possible points at the Maryland/American IHSA Show on November 10. The squad also continues to be among the best in the nation and going toe-to-toe with some of national championship teams. At the Holiday Classic Tournament of Champions on December 7, Goucher finished third in a field that included perennial powerhouses Savannah Art and Design and Mount Holyoke. The Gophers then placed fifth at the Winter Classic I Tournament of Champions on January 25 against similar competition.

Smith takes All-Goucher Coach of the Year for the third time in her career and the first time since winning the honor in back-to-back seasons in 2014 and 2015. It is the fifth time an equestrian head coach has bestowed the honor of the top coach after Patte Zumbrun earned the recognition for the 2010-11 and 2012-13 season.
