MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Leo Sementilli (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and Gavin Wilson (Charlestown, Pa./Great Valley) both tallied two of their three goals in the second quarter this afternoon as Goucher was up 9-2 at halftime and coasted to a 15-4 triumph over Huntingdon.
Sementilli's first goal provided the Gophers (2-0) with a 2-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Before the period ended, they tacked on a goal by Pierce Bailey (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) to expand their cushion to 3-0.
Wilson notched the first of his three goals 3:43 into the second period, bumping Goucher's lead up to 5-0. After the Hawks (1-2) got on the scoreboard for the first time on an unassisted goal by Kendrick Ballard, the Gophers responded with the game's next four goals, including Wilson's second and Sementilli's final two.
A man-down goal by Ballard with :39 showing on the clock closed out the scoring in the first half.
Wilson stuck his third goal 2:39 into the third quarter and the Gophers scored three more times in the period to take a 13-2 lead.
Nine different players had at least one goal in the victory. Conner Annunziato (West Chester, Pa./Bayerd Rustin), who tied the single-game school record of seven assists in the season-opening win over Millsaps, had a goal and four more assists today.
The Gophers outshot the Hawks, 49-21, and finished with a 35-19 advantage in ground balls.
Up next for head coach Brian Kelly's squad is a home game against Washington (Md.) on Feb. 21 at 5 p.m. The Shoremen were at No. 5 in the USILA Division III preseason rankings.
