TOWSON, Md. — The Landmark Conference selected Goucher's Nicholas Stolarz (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) as its Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for September 1-7.
One of 11 student-athletes recognized by the conference today for their performances during the seven-day stretch, Stolarz started in goal against McDaniel on September 3 and made seven saves as the Gophers pinned a 1-0 setback on the Green Terror.
It was Goucher's first win over its in-state rival since 2009.
With his second shutout of the season, the sophomore goalkeeper raised his save percentage to .769 and lowered his goals against average to 1.00.
The Gophers (2-1) were scheduled to play a second game last week against Cairn, but that contest was scoreless when it was halted in the 62nd minute due to lightning and was not resumed.
Coming up this week for head coach Bryan Laut's squad are games against two Centennial Conference opponents: at Washington (Md.) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and home vs. Gettysburg on Saturday at 1 p.m.
