TOWSON, Md. — The Landmark Conference, which is in its ninth year of competition, today recognized 380 student-athletes for their academic accomplishments by placing them on the Fall 2015 Academic Honor Roll. Forty-six of the honorees are from Goucher.
TOWSON, Md. — Daniel Hendry (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) became only the fourth goalkeeper in the 27-year history of Goucher's men's soccer program to earn all-conference honors when the 2015 All-Landmark Conference Men's Soccer Team was released this morning.
TOWSON, Md. — One of the top setters in the history of the volleyball program and a freshman midfielder who supplied the goals in a pair of 1-0 victories for the men's soccer team over Landmark Conference opponents were chosen as Goucher's Male and Female Gophers of the Month for October.
SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Every game has sort of been a playoff game for Goucher since head coach Bryan Laut's squad got off to an 0-3 start this season in the Landmark Conference. The Gophers kept themselves in the chase for a berth in next month's postseason tournament by beating three of the four conference opponents they've faced the past three weeks — and needed a win over Susquehanna this afternoon and a little help in order to return to the tournament for a second year in a row.
ST. DAVIDS, Pa. — Goucher ran into an opponent this afternoon that made it through the first 15 games of the season undefeated and was still smarting from a 1-0 loss to Wilkes just three days ago. A pair of goals midway through the first half is all that Eastern could manage, but they were enough for lift the Eagles past the Gophers, 2-0.
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher put forth the effort against Elizabethtown tonight one would expect out of a team that needs to pass at least four other teams in the Landmark Conference standings by the end of the regular season in order to earn a spot in the conference's postseason tournament.
MADISON, N.J. — Goucher, which had never before defeated Drew in the sport of men's soccer, established itself as a serious contender for a berth in the Landmark Conference's upcoming postseason tournament by knocking off the Rangers, 1-0, this afternoon.
TOWSON, Md. — For the first time all season, Goucher lost when it scored the first goal of a game. Andrew Marcantonio (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) provided the Gophers with a 1-0 lead over Washington (Md.) when he tallied his first goal of the season in the 38th minute, but the Shoremen responded with three goals in the second half to pull out a 3-1 victory.
TOWSON, Md. — A junior midfielder on the field hockey team who scored as many goals in the first eight games of the season as Goucher's opponents did and a sophomore defender on the men's soccer team who ended the month with a two-goal performance against Cairn were chosen as the Male and Female Gophers of the Month for September.
TOWSON, Md. — The goal Goucher scored to earn a 1-0 Landmark Conference victory over Scranton today was the result of contributions from at least three different players. But that goal might not have been as important in the outcome had sophomore Scott Mt. Pleasant (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) not made a magnificent defensive play in the eighth minute or freshman goalkeeper Daniel Hendry (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) not turned in a six-save performance.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Goucher returned to the scene of its gallant performance against Catholic in the semifinals of the 2014 Landmark Conference playoffs today. The Gophers stayed within a goal of the Cardinals until the 85th minute, but suffered a 3-nil setback.
TOWSON, Md. — Two goals scored in a span of 52 seconds early in the second half turned a slim 1-0 lead for Goucher into a robust three-goal advantage and the Gophers went on to claim their third non-conference victory of the season today by beating Cairn, 5-1, on Beldon Field.
TOWSON, Md. — One of the three saves Goucher's Daniel Hendry (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) made in the first half of today's game against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was on a shot by Gavin Yingling. The freshman goalkeeper also turned away a penalty kick by the leading scorer in the Landmark Conference in the 49th minute to keep the contest scoreless.
TOWSON, Md. — For the third time this season, Goucher entered the final 10 minutes of regulation leading an opponent, 1-0. Tonight, unlike the other two times, head coach Bryan Laut's squad finished the job and completed the shutout.
GETTYSBURG, Pa. — A successful penalty kick by Tate Becker (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) in the 80th minute would be Goucher's only shining moment today as the Gophers were beaten by Gettyburg, 5-1, on Clark Field.
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — A successful penalty kick by junior midfielder Tate Becker (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) in the 56th minute got Goucher on the scoreboard first in today's non-conference contest against Penn St.-Harrisburg.
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher was less than two minutes away from its first victory of the season tonight when Rosemont quieted the crowd that had gathered at Beldon Field to support head coach Bryan Laut's squad by scoring a goal to knot the score up at 1-1.
FREDERICK, Md. — After falling behind 2-0 in the 72nd minute this afternoon, it took Goucher exactly five minutes to get right back in the game on a goal by sophomore midfielder Ryan Mathews (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central). But Hood regained a two-goal advantage in the 82nd minute and came away with a 3-1 victory over the Gophers.
