Shoremen Pin 90-66 Setback on Gophers

Holbrook Places First in Pair of Uncontested Events

TOWSON, MD — Second place in the 200-yard individual medley by Sasha Verin (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron) stood up as Goucher's top performance in a contested event this evening as the Gophers were handed a 90-66 loss by Washington (Md.).

Verin completed the 200 IM in 2:14.54, picking up four points for the Gophers (0-7). Washington's Colin Soper won the event in 2:06.95.

Once the Shoremen began swimming exhibitions, Goucher took first place in the final three individual events and the 200 freestyle relay. Wells Holbrook (Knoxville, TN/Knox West) placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:01.14) and 500 free (5:22.93), and Michael Polonchak (Harpers Ferry, WV/home school) posted a winning time of 1:13.70 in the 100 breaststroke.
