Blue Jays Pin 6-3 Setback on GophersOrtiz, Covey Prevail in Singles Play in Straight Sets
March 22, 2007
TOWSON, MD — Goucher trailed Elizabethtown, 2-1, at
the conclusion of doubles play today, but then came up with only
half of the four wins in singles play it would need to overtake the
Blue Jays. Instead of a come-from-behind victory, the Gophers
sustained a 6-3 setback.
Wynn Thane (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) and Andrew Ortiz (Silver Spring, MD/Gonzaga) provided the Gophers (1-3) with their only point in doubles play by defeating Maarter Albers and Andrew Voshell at No. 1, 8-2.
Ortiz also was a winner in singles play as he downed Albers at No. 1, 6-2, 6-3. Chris Covey (Exeter, NH/Exeter) accounted for Goucher's other victory in singles play as he knocked off Voshell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4.
