CHESTERTOWN, MD — Goucher resumed its 2006-07 season
today, suffering a 9-0 loss to Washington (Md.), which is currently
ranked No. 11 among Division III teams in the Atlantic South
The Gophers (0-1) managed to win a total of 10 games in the three doubles matches. At No. 1, Andrew Ortiz (Silver Spring, MD/Gonzaga) and Wynn Thane (Chambersburg, PA/Mercersburg Academy) lost to Arturo Solis and Rafael Roldan, 8-4; at No. 2, Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, NY/Solomon Schechter) and Chris Covey (Exeter, NH/Exeter) fell to Brian Danver and Todd Green, 8-4.
Washington's No. 1 doubles team is currently ranked eighth in the Atlantic South Region.
The Shoremen (2-1) didn't lose a single set in doubles play.
Solis, ranked 17th in the region among Division III singles players, took care of Ortiz at No. 1 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0. Roldan defeated Thane at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0.
