Covey Wins Seven Games in Two Matches at No. 1

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Goucher returned to action for the first time since October today, but ran into a pair of formidable opponents in Washington (Md.) and Bridgewater. The Shoremen (2-0) swept the three doubles matches and won all six singles matches in straight sets to earn a 9-0 victory over head coach Michael Vann's Gophers (0-2) and the Eagles duplicated the feat, also winning 9-0.
In the first match of the day against Washington (Md.), Goucher's Chris Covey (Exeter, NH/Exeter) was able to win three games as he fell to Michal Switala 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Washington's Brian Danver defeated Michael Brooks (Old Westbury, NY/Solomon Schlechter) at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1.
Covey and Brooks were beaten at No. 1 doubles by Andrew Laux and Todd Green, 8-2.
Covey squared off against Brian Remsch at first singles when the Gophers took on the Eagles (1-0), and suffered a 6-2, 6-2 setback.
Covey and Brooks were against partnered at first doubles for Goucher and were handed an 8-2 setback by Remsch and Ryan Radke.
