TOWSON, Md. - The Men's Tennis program is excited to welcome Eric Spangler as their new head coach as they head into the spring portion of their 2018-19 season.
Interim Director of Athletics Andrew Wu had this to say about the new hire: "I'm thrilled that Coach Spangler is joining the Goucher family. Eric is a rising star in the tennis coaching world after an elite playing career, and has the skills and drive to take our men's tennis program to the next level. He's a natural fit and I know the guys on the team are excited and eager to follow his lead."
Spangler comes to us from Salisbury University where he spent two years coaching as the Associate Head Coach for Men, and as the Assistant Coach for Women. In this position, he has two consecutive semifinal appearances and he had several nationally ranked singles and doubles players under his direction.
As a player, Spangler spent four years playing under Randy Halfpap at Salisbury University. He made NCAA appearances for singles and doubles and was the winningest singles player in the history of Salisbury University. Other player honors include the All American Singles Honors at Kalamazoo in 2016, top 20 national ranking in singles, and top 25 national ranking in doubles.
Spangler has additional coaching experience from and Elite Level Training Facility: JTCC during four summers, where he coached elite level youth and adult tennis players who have gone professional as well as NCAA DI-DIII players. He also coached players who recently won the International Club Junior Challenge in Japan.
Spangler received a Bachelor's of Exercise Science in May of 2016 and a Master's of Applied Physiology in December of 2018, both from Salisbury University.
