Regopoulos, Miles Share Spotlight in November

TOWSON, Md. — A sophomore who broke the existing pool records in separate events in two different facilities and a senior guard who averaged 22.0 points per contest were chosen as Goucher's Male and Female Gophers of the Month for November.

Alexis Regopoulos (Fitchburg, Mass./North Middlesex Regional) earned the honor on the women's side after placing first in seven of the nine individual events in which she competed during the month. One of her three first-place performances in the Nov. 7 meet in Huntingdon, Pa. was in the 800-meter freestyle, where she set a new pool record with her time of 9:39.22. In Goucher's next meet on Nov. 18 against Notre Dame (Md.), she broke that institution's pool record with her winning time of 10:55.94 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

During November, Regopoulos posted the fastest times in the Landmark Conference this season in both the 160-yard individual medley (1:52.69) and the 1000 free (10:54.65).

"She trained hard to be ready for the season and continues to train hard, which I think will lead to some outstanding performances for her leading up to and at the Landmark Conference Championships (in February)," said Thomas Till, who is in his 18th season as head coach and aquatics director at Goucher.

Kevin Miles (District Heights, Md./Gwynn Park) was selected Gopher Male Athlete of the Month. He helped first-year head coach Tom Rose's squad get off to a 3-3 start by scoring 132 points in the six games played in November. He matched his career-high for points by pouring in 33 points against Rochester Inst. of Technology in the second game of the season and followed that up with a 31-point outing in an 87-76 triumph over Stevenson.

Through the first six games of 2015-16, Miles was 46-for-102 from the field (.451), including 15-for-39 on 3-point attempts (.385). In addition, he missed only four of the 29 free throws he was awarded (.862), averaged 4.7 rebounds, handed out 12 assists and made three steals.

"Kevin played very well in November, which allowed us to compete and win several games," according to Rose. "We will need him to bring focused energy at both ends of the floor for us to have additional success in our remaining games as we head into (Landmark Conference) play."

The selections of Regopoulos and Miles as November's Gophers of the Month, announced today, were made by the school's sports information staff, in consultation with coaches and other athletic administrators. Also considered on the women's side were Ashley Bent (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) and Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) from the equestrian team and Amaka Ezeani (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) from the women's basketball team; Miles was chosen over Colin Richter (Cleburne, Texas/Cleburne) from the men's swimming team.
