Darla Long begins her first season as an assistant coach under the tutledge of Tom Till in 2019-20.
Long was a four-year letterwinner on the women's swimming team at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. She swam the backstroke, and the individual medley and served as team captain as a senior for the Saints while also excelling in the classroom. She was named to the Dean's List for the spring of 2017, the Psychology Honorary Society in 2018 and the National College Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma.
"I am looking forward to joining the Goucher swim team community," said Long. "I loved my Division III experience and am excited to continue being a part of something that works toward creating well-rounded individuals! The way Coach Till and former assistant coach Kaleb Wylie have welcomed me so far lets me know that I'm becoming a member of a caring and competitive team!"
Originally from the state of Washington, Long was awarded the Presidential Diversity Scholarship at St. Lawrence. The scholarship was awarded for commitment to, and appreciation for racial and ethnic diversity.
During her summers in Washington, Long has worked as a head coach, lifeguard and instructor at the Lakeridge Swim Club since 2016 and as a lifeguard at the Seattle YMCA since 2015.
A 2019 graduate of St. Lawrence with a bachelor of science degree in psychology and philosophy, Long will work towards a Master's Degree Athletic Program Leadership and Administration at Goucher College.
