Huff Finishes as Only Double-Digit Scorer for Goucher
MADISON, N.J. — Through the first 16 games of the season, Goucher allowed only one opposing player to score more than 20 points and never once did the Gophers permit a player from the team they were facing to grab as many as 19 rebounds.
In tonight's Landmark Conference game against Drew, however, Danielle Barber erupted for 21 points and Victoria Ault achieved a double-double of 18 points and 22 rebounds in leading the Rangers past the Gophers, 64-42.
Barber, who was 7-for-15 from the field, which included a 3-for-6 performance from 3-point range, didn't score her first point in tonight's contest until she landed a 3-point attempt with 6:27 remaining before halftime which provided the Rangers (6-10, 2-4 Landmark) with a 20-15 lead.
Her second made 3-pointer put Drew up by 10 points for the first time with 2:52 remaining in the first half. She had eight points to her credit and the Rangers enjoyed a 34-19 advantage at the break.
The only time during the second half that the Gophers (5-12, 1-5 Landmark) were able to trim their deficit below 10 points was when Elizabeth von Ende (Leawood, Kan./American Hebrew Academy) landed a 3-pointer of her own nearly five minutes into the period.
Ault's 22 rebounds were one more than Goucher's total for the game. von Ende and TaQuasia Lambert (Brooklyn, N.Y./Patapsco) were the co-leaders in rebounds for the Gophers with five apiece.
Sharnell Huff (Bowie, Md./Bowie), who knocked down three 3-point field goals for the third consecutive game, was the only double-digit scorer for Goucher as she furnished the Gophers with 14 points.
The loss prevented the Gophers from stringing together three consecutive victories for the first time since they defeated Hood, Trinity (D.C.) and Christopher Newport in a span of six days early in the 2007-08 season.
