von Ende, Kollock Combine for 25 Points in 66-55 Setback
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher will have to wait for another day to earn its first all-time victory over Scranton in the sport of women's basketball, but head coach Didi Cotton's squad made a courageous bid to pull it off this evening in the Decker Sports & Recreation Center.
The Gophers, who once trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, rallied to take a one-point lead during the early stages of the second period. And with 8:25 left to play, they closed to within 45-44 on a basket by Sharnell Huff (Bowie, Md./Bowie).
The Lady Royals, however, responded just 15 seconds later with a 3-point basket by Katherine Torto to go up by four. After an exchange of two-point field goals, Sidney Jaques nailed a 3-pointer that extended Scranton's lead to 53-46 with 6:38 remaining.
The Gophers were able to creep as close as five points on two separate occasions down the stretch, but the Lady Royals came away with 66-55 victory that put them in a two-way tie for second place in the Landmark Conference.
