Lions Torch Gophers Early, Cruise to Non-Conference Victory

Gophers Shoot 17% From the Field in First Half

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Before Goucher could even blink, Penn St. Harrisburg held a 14-0 lead, never trailing on its way to a 59-47 victory.

It wasn't until 5:37 into tonight's game, that Goucher (4-7) found its way onto the scoreboard courtesy of a Sharnell Huff (Bowie, Md./Bowie) three, but by then the damage had been done as Penn St. Harrisburg (7-2) already received contributions from four players, taking an early 14-0 lead.

Attempting to rally, the Gophers put together a 9-0 run to close the lead to 16-12. Huff hit another three and followed with a layup. After a pair of free throws from TaQuasia Lambert (Brooklyn, N.Y./Patapsco), the Gophers pulled within four on a Ebonie Diggs (Mt. Rainier, Md./Northwestern) layup.

But the Gophers were unable to ever get within a single possession.

At the conclusion of the first half, the Lions held a 31-17 edge, with Goucher's score matching its field goal percentage in the frame.

Goucher pulled within single digits once after intermission, but the Lions responded immediately with a 7-0 run to quell the final threat.

This game marks the end of the non-conference slate for Goucher. Landmark Conference games resume on Saturday as the Gophers host Moravian.
