Goucher Women's Lacrosse Falls At Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. – Southern Virginia University defeated Goucher College in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Elizabeth Green (Easton, Pa./Lehigh Valley Charters for the Arts) paced the Gophers (3-2) with two goals and one assist. The freshman tied her career high of two markers she set on the road at Immaculata on February 27 while dishing out her first career assist. Green has seven goals and one assist for eight points on the year.

Emily Flinn (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) and Shannon Stull (Westminster, Md./Francis Scott Key) each added two tallies in the game. Flinn has now scored two or more goals in four-straight matches and ranks second on the team with 12 goals and six assists for 18 points. After posting 13 goals last week to earn the Landmark Conference Player of the Week honor, Stull notched her fifth multiple goal game of the year. The junior leads the team with 21 goals and six assists for 27 points. Stull also had three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.

After the Knights scored the first three goals of the game, Green got Goucher on the scoreboard off a pass from Julia Gazzola (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) at 21:18.

Green then momentarily halted a 5-0 run by Southern Virginia with an unassisted tally at 12:49. Stull scored unassisted at 4:25 to end the scoring for the Gophers in the first half.

Jordan Tice (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) got the scoring started in the second half and started a 6-2 run with a tally at 27:02. After a Knights marker, Alyssa Long (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) found the back of the net unassisted at 20:01, Gazzola scored off a Camryn Agostino (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) assist at 19:27 and Flinn posted a tally unassisted at 16:54.

Southern Virginia momentarily halted the Goucher offensive outburst before Flinn scored off a Green feeder at 13:50 and Stull converted a free-position tally at 13:33 to cut the margin to 15-9.

The Knights closed the game on a 5-1 run with Agostino finding the net at 5:39 for the Gophers lone tally in that span, but Southern Virginia went on for a 20-10 victory.

Abbie McHerron (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills) made seven saves in the loss.

Goucher returns to action at home against Bryn Mawr on Thursday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
