TOWSON, MD — Goucher got off to a great start
against Washington (Md.) this evening, capturing first and third
places in the 200-yard medley relay to take a 13-4 lead. But the
Gophers would be shut out of first-place performances in contested
events the rest of the way, opening the door for the Shorewomen to
secure a 121-79 victory.
Bethany Natoli (Alexandria, VA/O'Connell),
Alex Deffaa (Glen Rock, NJ/Oakwood Friends
School), Toni Boyd (Louisville,
KY/Ballard) and Britt Hogstrom (Killington,
VT/Woodstock Union) made up Goucher's victorious foursome
in the meet's opening event. The quartet completed the 200 medley
relay in 2:00.0.
The Gophers (3-6) didn't take first in another event until the
final individual event of the meet when the Shorewomen were
swimming exhibitions. In the 100 breaststroke, Goucher's
Candace Crasto (Tallahassee, FL/Urbana) was
awarded first and her winning time was 1:15.72.
Goucher also took first and second place in the 200 freestyle
relay.
Goucher swimmers placed second in three contested individual
events: Hogstrom in the 200 free and 100 free; Natoli in the 200
individual medley. Deffaa was runner-up to Crasto in the 100
breast.
