This Week In Goucher Landmark Conference History (September 28-October 4)
We have had a lot of great moments since Goucher joined the Landmark Conference in 2007. While the college athletics world is still on pause due to COVID-19, we will look back at events from our teams from the past since we joined the conference. Each week we will focus on the days that occur from Monday to Sunday for the 2020 calendar year with events from our fall sports every Thursday. We will highlight some great wins and performances for cross country, field hockey, soccer and volleyball. This week we will focus on events that occurred from September 28-October 4.
September 28
September 28 has produced three wins for the Gophers women's volleyball team. Claire Sauvage-Mar tallied 22 assists and 17 digs to in a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-21, 28-26) against Notre Dame in 2010. Megan Chalk and Tori Rain combined for 26 kills and 49 digs while Addie Lanzarotta (12 kills, 12 digs) and Sarah Johnson (47 assists, 13 digs) also had big performances in a five-set win (25-17, 25-20, 19-25, 22-25, 15-10) against Kean on this day in 2013. Tes DeJaeger powered Goucher to a pair of straight-set wins in Baltimore last season with 29 assists against New Jersey City (25-13, 25-11, 25-20) and Delaware Valley (25-21, 25-18, 25-15). Sauvage-Mar, Chalk, Rain, Lanzarotta, Johnson and DeJaeger are on the Women's Volleyball All-Decade fan vote that ends Friday at 9 a.m. (CLICK HERE TO VOTE)
The field hockey team also has three wins on this day. Olivia Dickert registered a hat trick in a 5-2 win against Immaculata in 2017 while Danielle Johnson and Ari Hooper both scored in a 2-0 win against Drew in 2019 highlight the three wins for the squad.
September 29
John Caslin reached a milestone on this day in 2018 by coaching in his 200th career meet at the Don Carhart Invitational for the men's and women's cross country team. Also, Katherine Currier finished third at the Dickinson Invitational with a time of 23:22.5 for the Blue and Gold women's cross country team in 2012.
The field hockey team defeated Immaculata 2-0 on this day in 2010. Ali Metzger dished out an assist on Eden Fitzkee's tally in the fourth minute and then found the back of the cage off a Sara Soadnuta feeder in the 22nd minute.
September 30
A pair of late game heroics highlight September 30 for the Gophers men's soccer team. Lashaw Salta broke a 1-all standstill with 47 seconds left in regulation for a 2-1 win against St. Mary's in 2014. Jeremy Hardy found the twine to open the scoring for Goucher in the 10th minute. Three years later, Konrad Bulanowski scored two late tallies in a 3-2 overtime win against Susquehanna in 2017. He scored at 81:48 and then twinkled the twine with the decisive score at the 94:18 mark.
October 1
The men's soccer team also had late game magic on October 1 to lead to a pair of victories. Julen Grecco scored the game-winning goal off an Evan Rosse assist at 78:33 in a 2-1 win against Delaware Valley in 2008 and then Elijah Lais notched the only goal of the game 114 seconds into overtime in a 1-0 decision against Juniata in 2011.
October 2
Katherine Matthew-Parker scored the lone goal of the game off a Lindsey Puopolo feeder at 26:15 and the Gophers women's soccer team held on for a 1-0 win against Albright in 2013.
October 3
The Blue and Gold harriers had success on October 3 at the Catholic Invitational in 2009. Joey Negreann won the men's race with a time of 28:09.44 while Zach Martin was fourth with a time of 29:17.45 to help the men's team to a second-place standing. The Gopher women finshed third thanks to Hadley Couraud finishing fifth with a time of 26:28.28 and Katie Shaw crossing the finish line in ninth with a time of 29:17.45.
The women's volleyball team has registered two conference wins on this date in 2009 and 2010. Megan Smith tallied 14 digs and 13 kills and Sauvage-Mar added 24 assists and 10 digs in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 28-26) win against Merchant Marine in 2009. The following year, Goucher rallied from two sets down to defeat Moravian 3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-15, 15-6). Kasey Quinn powered the comeback with 17 kills and 16 digs. Sauvage-Mar registered 34 assists and 11 digs while Chalk added 10 kills in the win.
October 4
Samantha Turner and Theresa Antkowiak-Tassone had mult-goal performances in a pair of wins in back-to-back seasons for the women's soccer team on October 4. Turner tallied two goals and one assist in a 4-0 win Widener in 2016 while Antkowiak-Tassone scored a pair of second half goals in 2017 in a 3-1 win against Delaware Valley.
