Facility Upgrades
In an effort to upgrade athletic facilities and support the interests and needs of Goucher’s students and thereby create a more vibrant campus community, the College took a gift made in the summer of 2009 to the Capital Campaign to construct the following:
The new cardio area, in former classroom 211, opened in October of
2009 and has 22 pieces of cardio equipment, each with its own high
definition flat screen television. Just plug in your own earphones
and you are on your way. There are also 11 pieces of cardio
equipment located on the lower level of the SRC, and 10 pieces of
cardio equipment going onto the third floor of the Athenaeum.
The construction on the new infill turf field with lights is currently underway and will be completed in the middle of August. This 105,000 square foot space will allow five teams to play and practice: men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and field hockey. And, club sport and intramural programming will be expanded considerable because of the lights and access to a field after dark.

A new strength and conditioning center will begin construction in
July. This 2,700 square foot space will be the home of selectorized
machines, plate loaded and free weight equipment, and dumbbells. It
is more than double the size of our current weight room. Below the
strength and conditioning center will be a 3,200 square foot dance
studio. One racquetball and one squash court will remain in place.
Construction will make access to the lower level of the SRC
difficult during the summer months. The expectation is that the
space will be completed by November of 2009.
