TOWSON, MD – Junior Mackenzie Donohue (Bronx, NY) of Goucher College women’s tennis and freshman Ogemdi Chukwu (Paris, France) men’s outdoor track & field have been named the Goucher College Athletes of the Week.
Donohue is being honored after going 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles play last week. She was an integral part in the Gophers’ 5-4 win over Bryn Mawr at home on Saturday. The junior from Bronx, NY defeated Alice Prodosky 7-5, 6-4 to seal the win for Goucher. She paired with teammate Ali Tomasevich (Harleysville, PA) to topple their Bryn Mawr foes, 8-6.
In the 7-2 loss to Washington College on Sunday, Donohue was part in both wins for the Gophers. She beat her No. 6 singles opponent Mariah Thomas 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 and paired with Tomasevich for another win at No. 3 doubles.
Donohue and the women’s tennis team return to action on Thursday when they take on Randolph-Macon at 3PM in Towson, MD.
Chukwu is being honored for winning the 110m hurdles during the teams’ only home meet of the season. The freshman from Paris, France ran a time of 15.56 during the preliminaries – setting a new Goucher College record in the event. Unsatisfied with simply breaking the record once, Chukwu returned to the finals to break the record again with a time of 15.55 seconds.
During his first indoor season at Goucher, Chukwu also broke the school records in the 60m hurdles (8.66) and 55m hurdles (8.20).
Chukwu has also been named the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week.
The men’s outdoor track & field team hits the road next weekend to the Battleground Relays held at the University of Mary Washington.
