Gunter and Mullinix Named Goucher College Athletes of the Week
First-year thrower Taylor Gunter and freshman Frankie Mullinix (Washington, DC) have been named the Goucher College Athletes of the Week.
TOWSON, Md. – First-year thrower Taylor Gunter (Laurel, MD) and freshman Frankie Mullinix (Washington, DC) have been named the Goucher College Athletes of the Week.
Gunter, who is earning the award for the first time, set a new personal best in the discus throw with a distance of 30.62 meters (100’5”) at the Battleground Relays on Saturday. The throw is the first time she has surpassed the 100-foot mark in her career. After finishing seventh in overall in the discus throw, Gunter went on to take ninth place in the shot put with a distance of 10.15m (33’3.75”).
The Goucher College women’s track & field team travels to Mechanicsburg, PA on Saturday, April 8th to participate in the Messiah College Invitational.
Mullinix is also earning the Goucher College Athlete of the Week honor for the first time in his career. On Saturday against Landmark opponent Susquehanna, the Washington, DC native paired up with junior Josiah Meekins (Trenton, NJ) to win 8-3 over Nicholas Meale and Ashton Collins. He went on to dominate at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
Over the course of the season, Mullinix has gone 5-1 at No. 2 singles and 7-6 overall. He also holds a 6-6 record in doubles play, with a 4-3 record at No. 3 doubles.
Mullinix and the Gophers have an action packed weekend at home on April 8th and 9th when they play host to Scranton, Drew and Stevenson. The first match (Scranton) begins on Saturday at 1PM while the Drew and Stevenson matches commence on Sunday at 1PM.
