TOWSON, MD – Sophomore Lexi Stewart (Laurel, MD) and freshman Ogemdi Chukwu (Paris, France) have been named the Goucher College Athletes of the Week following their performances at the Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships last weekend.
Stewart, who was participating in only her third meet of her career, made her way onto the podium, finishing second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.12. She followed that performance with a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.82 and a fifth-place finish in the long jump (4.58m).
In addition to a stellar day individually, Stewart was the second leg of the women’s 4x200 relay that earned bronze with a time of 1:54.00 – a season best for the relay. The Gophers finished 5th of 6 at the Landmark Conference meet with a total of 34 points.
Chukwu is being honored after placing second in the 60-meter hurdles and setting a new school record in the event (8.66). He previously owned the record with a time of 8.70, and surpassed the mark for the third time this season.
Chukwu was also a member of the 4x200 relay that earned silver with a time of 1:35.54, breaking another school record that he, Xavier Coggeshall, Gunther Wallach and Miles Taylor set the week before at the Susquehanna Invite. The Gophers finished 6th at the event with 22 points – the highest point total they have reached since 2012.
