Game Changers: Goucher College Unveils New Brand/Partnership with Under Armour
Aug. 31 – TOWSON, Md. – The next era of Goucher athletics officially began on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 with the unveiling of a new Gopher logo and the announcement of a three-year partnership with Baltimore-based Under Armour.

"We are excited to be able to build our relationship with Under Armour," says Goucher's Director of Athletics Geoffrey Miller. "With Goucher being recognized as one of the top ten innovative schools in the country, it makes sense for us to partner with a very innovative, progressive, and international company." 

Goucher is just the second Division III institution in the state of Maryland to develop a partnership with the athletic company. The contract, a three-year commitment, not only helps the Gophers rebrand their athletics uniforms, but it also grants Goucher athletes the ability to use the Under Armour gym and other facilities.

"Goucher is at the cutting edge of liberal arts education, and now we're partnering with one of the great athletic innovators of our time," says President José Bowen. "We believe that our new brand is something that our students and our alumnae/i, will embrace and celebrate. It's an exciting time to be at Goucher College."

Along with the partnership comes a brand new athletics logo, featuring a more-fierce Gopher, which was announced during the College's opening ceremony on Wednesday.

"This is historic. The last Gopher logo was designed 20 years ago," says Miller.

The newly transformed Gopher, was created by Skye Design Studios, a brand identity and design firm based in New York City.

The updated Gopher will include primary, secondary and tertiary logos, along with a wordmark and sport-specific images.

"The final marks emphasize three key elements that define Goucher," says Skye Dillon, owner. "The butler stone used throughout campus served as a unique metaphor of an eclectic community unified for a singular purpose. The custom typography and 'G' moniker was born from Goucher's academic shield shape. Finally, the Maryland flag was cleverly integrated to give the department a sense of place within a national context."

The new logos will be used on Goucher's website, social media platforms, and facilities.  The Under Armour brand will be used for athletic team uniforms and gear.

Additionally, new apparel and merchandise will be on campus and available for purchase at the campus store.
