TOWSON, Md. – Freshman Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic) of men's tennis rounds out the All-Goucher Second Team following his debut season in the blue & gold.
As a first-year competitor, Herman posted a 15-8 record primarily at #2 singles. He also took on the role at #1 singles twice, defeating both of his opponents. Herman held onto an important role in doubles play, recording a 14-10 overall record, primarily at #1 doubles.
Over the course of the season, Herman played no lower than #3 singles, including 2-0 records at #1 and #3 singles. He also went 3-3 in conference singles play and swept his way through the Landmark Conference Championships with wins at #2 singles against Scranton and Juniata. He added another win during the NCAA First Round match against John Carroll University, winning 6-1, 6-3 over Gustavo Garcia.
Herman's primary partner in doubles play during the 2016-17 season was sophomore Elliot Diehl (York, Pa.). While playing at #1 doubles the duo went 5-6 during their first year of competition together. They also added a 5-4 record at #2 doubles. In conference play, they went 4-2 and added an 8-1 win over Keller McGurrin and Alexander Ochalski from Scranton during the Landmark Conference Championship semifinal.
Following the 2017 spring season, the coaches of the Landmark Conference named Herman the Co-Rookie of the Year with Drew's Geoffrey Diehl. Herman was also named an All-Landmark Conference Second Team Singles and All-Sportsmanship Team honoree.
The All-Goucher Team is selected by a panel of athletic administrators and represents the 10 most distinguished student-athletes and most outstanding coach during an academic year. The All-Goucher team was established in 2010-11 and is selected annually.
