TOWSON, Md. – The Goucher College men's soccer team announced its 2017 schedule on Thursday. The fall schedule includes nine home matches at Beldon Field. The 2017 slate includes two teams which competed in last season's NCAA tournament and 15-of-18 teams from the 2016 schedule.
Head coach Bryan Laut enters his eighth season as the head coach of the Gophers with 43 career victories – ranking third all-time at Goucher. In that time he has placed 10 players on the All-Landmark Conference team, including Drew Phillips, who earned Second Team honors in 2016.
"We are extremely excited about this upcoming season," stated Laut. "As usual we will be playing a challenging non-conference schedule to help prepare us for our all-important Landmark games and our goal of being a Landmark Conference playoff team."
Goucher opens the season with eight-straight nonconference matchups in September including Johns Hopkins (12-3-3 in 2016) and Mt. Aloysius (10-8-1) before opening Landmark Conference play against Juniata College at home on Sept. 23 and Susquehanna in Selinsgrove, Pa. Sept. 30. The Gophers jumped out to a strong start in 2016, posting a 5-2-3 record in September.
The month of October shapes up to be a rigorous month for Goucher, taking on five Landmark Conference opponents starting with Catholic and Moravian on the road on Oct. 4 and Oct. 7, respectively. The Gophers travel to Collegeville, Pa. on Oct. 11 to take on Ursinus in a mid-week nonconference clash before playing host to Elizabethtown on Oct. 14 and Scranton on Oct. 21. Both Elizabethtown and Scranton made appearances in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Goucher wraps up its home schedule on Oct. 24 against Washington (Md.) on Beldon Field before closing out the regular season on the road against Drew in Madison, N.J. on Oct. 28.
The Landmark Conference Tournament will commence on Nov. 1 with the top two seeds hosting the bottom two seeds. The finals will be hosted by the highest remaining seed on Nov. 4. The 2017 NCAA Tournament will begin Nov. 11.
