Goucher Regains First Place in Region IMartin Adds to Lead in High Point Rider Standings

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Goucher will take an eight-point advantage over Mary Washington in the IHSA Zone IV Region I standings into the region's final competition as the result of a dominating performance at today's show which was conducted at Garrison Forest School.
In addition, Goucher's Brittany Martin (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) added to her lead in the region's high point rider standings today.
Goucher entered today's show four points behind Mary Washington, but earned 44 points to boost its total for the 2007-08 season to 195. Mary Washington finished second today with 32 points, raising its total to 187. St. Mary's (Md.) and William & Mary tied for third place today with 26 points apiece, but no other riding program is within 50 points of either Goucher or Mary Washington heading into the final show scheduled for Feb. 23-24.
Martin was awarded first place today in open equitation over fences and second in open equitation on the flat, making her the reserve high point rider with 12 points. In the season standings, Martin leads with a total of 55 points, giving her a 10-point cushion over Brittany Yates from Richmond.
Other Goucher riders who turned in first-place performances at today's show were Sarah Pandolfini (New York, NY/Buckston) in intermediate flat, Emily Shelley (Glyndon, MD), Justine Wilson (Westminster, MD/Westminster) and Katherine Bryant (Cockeysville, MD/Dulaney) in novice flat, April Kerns (Timonium, MD/Dulaney) in advanced walk-trot-canter and Lori Scott (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) in walk-trot.
Two riders qualified to compete at the regional championships: Martin in open fences and Shelley in novice flat.
