RICHMOND, Va. - Goucher's Brittany Martin (Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) and Emily Berkowitz (Bryn Mawr, PA/Harriton) distinguished themselves at today's IHSA Zone IV Region I riding show.

Martin was awarded first place in open equitation over fences and open equitation on the flat, making her the show's high point rider for the second time this season. Berkowitz placed first in novice equitation on the flat, and qualified for the regional championships in April in both novice fences and novice flat.

Three other Goucher riders offered first-place performances today: Kelly Usher (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) in novice flat, Valerie Wiseman (Chapel Hill, NC/Chapel Hill) in advanced walk-trot-canter and Sarah Pandolfini (New York, NY/Buckston) in intermediate flat.  Courtney Levine (Miami, FL/Miami Palmetto) placed second in novice flat, as did Allison Wherley (Glen Rock, PA/Susquehannock) in open fences and Lori Scott (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) in walk-trot.

Goucher took over first place in the Zone IV Region I standings with a team score of 38 points today. That gives director Patte Zumbrun's riders a one-point lead over Mary Washington, which scored 37 points today. George Mason and Richmond tied for third with 36 points apiece.
