Brandt Shares Top Spot with Rider from Christopher Newport
TOWSON, Md. — Goucher emerged as the high point college and also produced the co-high point rider today at the first IHSA Zone IV Region I riding show of the season.
Final team scores at the Mount St. Mary's University Show had Goucher in first place with 42 points and Mary Washington in second with 39 points. There was a two-way tie for third place between Christopher Newport and Richmond, each with 24 points.
Two riders — Goucher's Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook) and Haley Jones from Christopher Newport — shared first place in the high point rider standings at the show's conclusion, each having earned 12 points. Karli Postel (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian School), also from Goucher, is a point behind the co-leaders and alone in third place.
Brandt and Postel both offered first-place performances in open equitation over fences; Brandt was also awarded second place in open equitation on the flat.
In the intermediate division, Courtney Levine (Miami, Fla./Miami Palmetto) and Catherine Gregory (Oregon City, Ore./Canby) took first and second place, respectively, in the flat phase, and Taylor Marcus (Unionville, Pa./Unionville) placed second in the jumping phase.
There were a pair of first-place performances by Goucher riders in the novice division: one by Chaz Kellogg (Pennington, N.J./Wellesley) over fences and the other by Addie Jabin (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) on the flat.
Judges awarded second place in advanced walk-trot-canter equitation to Goucher's April Kerns (Timonium, Md./Dulaney).
