Kellogg, Taylor Earn Blue Ribbons in Novice Flat
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Superior performances by Chaz Kellogg (Pennington, N.J./Wellesley) and Lisa Taylor (Baltimore, Md./Oldfields School) in the novice division helped Goucher score 36 points at today's IHSA riding show at Hazelwild Farm, which nearly clinched the 2011-12 Zone IV Region I title for Patte Zumbrun's riding program.
Including the 36 points they picked up today, the Gophers go into the final show of the regular season on March 31 with 244 points. Christopher Newport is 48 points behind in second place and Mary Washington is another seven points back in third place.
Kellogg and Taylor were both awarded first place in the flat phase. So was Amory Brandt (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook), who competed in the open division.
Karli Postel (Newbury Park, Calif./Oaks Christian School) also represented Goucher in the open division and placed first in the jumping phase and second in flat. Still, she was designated high point rider for the day by earning 12 points and qualified to compete at the regional championships on April 1 in the flat phase.
Jen Manley (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) earned a red ribbon for second place in walk-trot equitation.
