Fink Earns Blue Ribbon in Novice Fences, Red in Novice Flat
TOWSON, Md. — On the way to the IHSA Zone IV Region I title in 2011-12, Goucher scored as many as 45 points in only one Zone IV-I show the entire season. In beginning pursuit of another crown today, director Patte Zumbrun's riders hit the 45-point mark right off the bat and earned the distinction of high-point team at a riding show hosted by the defending champions.
By earning 45 points, Goucher immediately staked itself to a five-point lead in the region standings over Mary Washington. Third place went to Christopher Newport, which pocketed 30 points at the region's first show of the 2012-13 campaign.
Goucher also produced the reserve high-point rider at today's show. That honor went to Joey Fink (Baltimore, Md./The Park School), who was awarded first place in novice equitation over fences and second place in novice equitation on the flat.
Karli Postel (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Oaks Christian School), the region's high-point rider and Cacchione Cup qualifier in 2011-12, placed first in open equitation on the flat.
In the intermediate division, first-year riders Ashley Bent (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) and Hayley Cohen (Davidsonville, Md./Indian Creek) both came away with blue ribbons: Bent in the jumping phase and Cohen in intermediate flat.
Laura Malone (Weston, Mass./Weston) took first place in novice flat.
Madison Tidwell (Sun Valley, Idaho/Middle College) was the recipient of a blue ribbon in walk-trot; Kaduk Sherpa (East Aurora, N.Y./The Park School) came away with a red ribbon for second place in advanced walk-trot-canter.
