TOWSON, Md. — Hayley Cohen (Davidsonville, Md./Indian Creek) became the first Goucher rider to qualify for the 2015 IHSA Zone IV Region I Championships with one of her performances during the region's second show of the season, which was conducted today on the Goucher campus.
Cohen earned a red ribbon for second place in intermediate equitation on the flat. She now has enough points to compete in that class at regionals, which will take place in March.
Four riders from Goucher were awarded blue ribbons for first-place performances: Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) in open equitation over fences, Joey Fink (Baltimore, Md./The Park School) for open flat, Laura Malone (Weston, Mass./Weston) for intermediate flat and Hannah Woodson (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) for advanced walk-trot-canter.
Fink also took second place in open fences and was declared the show's high point rider. Malone was reserve high point rider.
Ari Schlossberg (Barrington, Ill./Barrington Community) picked up a red ribbon in walk-trot.
Goucher entered today's show in first place in the Zone IV Region I standings, leading Mount St. Mary's and George Mason by 25 points. The Gophers gained another 35 points and they now have a 31-point advantage over their closest pursuer.
The next Zone IV-Region I show will take place November 8 at The Other Left Farm in Oatland, Md.
