Gophers have another perfect day; Lummis and Porter tie for High Point Rider for the second straight show

Fairfax, VA - This weekend, the Gophers traveled to Frying Pan Park in Herndon, VA for two IHSA competitions – the first hosted by George Washington University, and the second hosted by George Mason University.  On Saturday, the team attained their second perfect score of 49 for the semester.  This is the first time in the program's history that the Gophers have received two perfect scores in the same year, let alone in the same semester.   On Sunday, the Gophers won reserve high point team honors with 32 points.  The two wins widened the Gophers lead in Zone IV Region I to 57 points.

The team was led both days by first year John Porter (Somers, CT / Somers)  who received High Point Rider honors on Saturday, and Reserve High Point rider on Sunday.  Senior Sarah Lummis (Westminster, MD/ Winters Mill ) tied with Porter on Saturday for High Point Rider.

On Saturday, Porter took first place in Open fences and flat, and Lummis in Intermediate flat and Novice fences.  Additional first place performances came from junior Cary Hundley (Ellicott City, MD / Marriotts Ridge)  in Open flat, junior Clea Lerner (Los Angeles, CA / Renaissance Arts Academy)  in Intermediate fences, sophomore Alessandra D'Amour (Pennington, NJ / The Pennington School)  in Intermediate fences, first year Rena DiPaula (Westminster, MD/ Institute of Notre Dame)  in Novice flat, and sophomore Ashley Edwards (Leonardtown, MD / Leonardtown)  in Walk Trot Canter.  Senior Hannah Woodson (Timonium, MD / Dulaney) also won second place in Novice flat.

On Sunday, Porter took first place in Open fences and second in Open flat.  Additional standout performances included: Hundley with first in Open fences, Lerner with second in Intermediate fences, and Lummis and DiPaula each with second in Novice fences.

With this weekend's winnings under their belt, Hundley and Porter are neck-and-neck in the Cacchione Cup Standings with 55 and 54 points, respectively.  Porter also qualified for Zone IV Region I Finals in Open flat and Hundley qualified in Open Fences.

The Gophers will look to build on this success on November 19th at the University of Maryland/American University IHSA Show, which will be their last regular season show of the Fall 2016 semester.
