Eleven Players from Goucher Land on Academic Squad

Field Hockey Program Also Earns Academic Recognition from NFHCA

GLEN ALLEN, Va. - Eleven Goucher field hockey players were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's 2007 Division III National Academic Squad in an announcement made by the organization today.

To be selected to the National Academic Squad, which is sponsored by ZAG, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30 through the first semester of the current academic year. Those from Goucher who made the academic team are Nicole Baillie (East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown), Mary Cadwallender (Fredericksburg, VA/The Madeira School), Marissa Copan (Golden, CO/Golden), Laura Groomes (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area), Kaylan Kaatz (Prince Frederick, MD/Calvert), Debra Lenik (Woodstown, NJ/Westtown School), Allison Metzger (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh), Alyssa Rittenburg (Burlington, MA/Burlington), Sara Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills), Giovanna Thomas (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) and Jess Wurzbacher (Lutherville, MD/Towson).

In addition, head coach Warren Prestwich's program was one of 83 in Division III which was also given the 2007 National Academic Team Award by the NFHCA for maintaining a team GPA of at least 3.0.
