Haddad Turns Away 12 Attempts Over Final 35:00

Sept. 5, 2007

TOWSON, Md - Goucher kept Washington (Md.) off the scoreboard the entire second half, but unfortunately for the Gophers, the Shorewomen already had mounted a 4-0 advantage. With neither team able to score over the final 35:00, Washington managed to come away with a 4-0 victory.

The Shorewomen wasted little time assuming a 2-0 lead. Just :34 into the contest, they went ahead 1-0 on a goal by Kristin Bircsak and, less than three minutes later, an unassisted goal by Candace Gaull made the score 2-0. During a span of 1:25 late in the first half, Jaimie Barlow tallied an unassisted goal and Gaull notched her second goal of the game to put the Gophers (0-2) in a 4-0 hole.

The Shorewomen (2-0) never held back in the second half, unleashing an additional 14 shots for a total of 25 for the game, but sophomore goalie Aline Haddad (Bangor, PA/Bangor) made 12 saves to prevent her team from falling further behind.

This was the first meeting between the in-state rivals in the sport of field hockey since 1990.
