Crimson Eagles Turn Back Gophers, 1-0Four Straight Landmark Conference Games on Tap
Sept. 18, 2007
LANGHORNE, Pa. - With a string of four consecutive Landmark Conference games on the horizon, Goucher was hoping to reverse its fortunes and pick up its first win of the season today. But even with the Gophers limiting Philadelphia Biblical to only three shots the entire contest, the Crimson Eagles (1-5) made the most of their few opportunities to earn a 1-0 victory over head coach Warren Prestwich's squad.
The clock was showing less than 10 minutes left to play in regulation when there was a scramble in front of the goal and Philadelphia Biblical's Rebecca Gill managed to gain possession of the ball for a split second and slap it into the net.
The Gophers (0-5) appeared to be controlling play throughout much of the contest, particularly in the first half when they were awarded three penalty corners. During the opening 35:00, Sara Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) and Marissa Copan (Golden, CO/Golden) combined to take three shots.
