Gophers Pick Up First Road Win Since 2003
Spadanuta Supplies Goal, Assist to 2-1 Victory Over
Oct. 16, 2007
FREDERICK, Md. - Sara Spadanuta (Hackettstown, NJ/Warren Hills) had a hand in both goals Goucher scored today in a 2-1 victory over Hood.
The freshman midfielder's unassisted goal with 6:48 remaining in the first half provided the Gophers (3-9) with a 1-0 lead. Barely two minutes into the second half, however, the Blazers (3-10) pulled even on a goal by Sarah Balukoff.
Spadanuta was awarded her team-leading third assist of the season on a goal Laura Groomes (Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel Area) scored with 19:10 left to play that broke the 1-1 tie. Groomes has tallied two goals for the Gophers this season and both have provided the final margin of victory in a 2-1 win.
Aline Haddad (Bangor, PA/Bangor) went the distance in goal for Goucher, making three saves. She was also supported in the form of defensive saves by Katie Skojec (Columbia, MD/Hammond) and Barbara Koziel (Holland Twp., NJ/Delaware Valley Regional).
The victory was also Goucher's first away from the friendly confines of Gopher Stadium since a 5-1 triumph over Hood on Oct. 15, 2003.
