WASHINGTON, D.C. - Goucher's season came to a conclusion today when the Gophers bowed to top-seeded Catholic, 4-0, in the semifinals of the inaugural Landmark Conference championship tournament.
Although the Cardinals (11-7) got off 13 shots in the first half, they didn't get on the scoreboard until Meredith Reape redirected a shot by Carley Walko into the net with 13:28 remaining before halftime. Catholic went ahead 2-0 with 7:08 left to play before halftime on a goal by Tory Gagliardi.
The Gophers (3-13) appeared to be more determined on defense in the second half, limiting Catholic to only eight shots. In addition, after being awarded 11 penalty corners in the first half, the Cardinals picked up only two over the final 35:00. Still, Catholic struck for a pair of goals: Michele Repass successfully converted a penalty stroke 1:45 into the second half to make the score 3-0 and then set up a goal by Erin Kelly with 17:59 remaining.
An 11-save performance by Aline Haddad (Bangor, PA/Bangor) allowed the sophomore goalie to finish the season with 181 saves and a .797 save percentage. After two seasons at Goucher, she has 389 saves to her credit, already the fifth-highest total in the history of Goucher's field hockey program.
Katie Skojec (Columbia, MD/Hammond) made a defensive save for the Gophers.
