READING, Pa. – Neither Goucher nor Albright had many scoring chances in tonight's game, but it was the Lions (3-3) who cashed in on one that developed in overtime to earn a hard-fought 1-0 non-conference victory over head coach Warren Prestwich's Gophers.
Approximately five minutes into overtime, Albright's Lauren Smolar unleashed a hard shot from just outside the goal box. A Goucher defender was able to stop the shot, but the Gophers (2-5) weren't able to clear the ball before a scrum ensued during which Julianne Sahina got her stick on the ball and fired it into the net toward the near post.
Albright got off seven shots during regulation, one more than the Gophers. Freshman goalie Chloe Dircks (Williamstown, Mass./Williston Northhampton), who was in Goucher's starting line-up but began the second half on the bench before returning for good midway through the period, turned away three shots and also was the beneficiary of a defensive save by teammate Barb Koziel (Holland Twp., N.J./Delaware Valley Regional).
