TOWSON, Md. – Even though two goalies combined to make 12 saves and Barb Koziel (Holland Twp., N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) came up with three defensive saves, Goucher couldn't keep Catholic from securing a 5-0 Landmark Conference victory today in Gopher Stadium.
The Cardinals (6-4, 2-0 Landmark) unleashed a total of 15 shots in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Tracey Scanlon just 7:15 into the contest and then going ahead 2-0 when Scanlon scored again at 14:24.
Liz McCormick and Meredith Chandler both tallied unassisted goals in the second period before Ro Dixon closed out the scoring with 9:41 left to play by successfully converting a penalty stroke.
Chloe Dircks (Williamstown, Mass./Williston Northhampton) started in goal for the Gophers (3-9, 0-3 Landmark) and was credited with 10 saves. Micki Manheimer (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) entered the game with 9:41 remaining and made two saves down the stretch.
The three defensive saves Koziel made in today's game boosts her total for the season to seven, making her the leader in defensive saves in the Landmark Conference.
